Freddie and Katie's Double Act

They have really got this down to a fine art. Katie distracts the chickens by throwing treats into the farthest reaches of their run while Freddie nips in and out changing the water and food. A sight to behold:

Wicked Uncle Pete Comes to Stay

When I arrived yesterday there were two horses in the field.  This morning there were three - well two and a half really.  None of us realised that she was pregnant!

I thought the Effingpots only had 6 chickens, but as you can see they have another very nice yellow chick.

So far so good.  I have had all my instructions.  Now I just have to make sure I get Freddie and Katie to school on time, remember to collect them afterwards, take Freddie to cubs and make sure my cooking is nearly as good as Mike's (otherwise I am bound to get complaints)!

Mothers Day in Wymondham

a
For once I was not called upon to cook Sunday lunch for Mothers Day. Instead, we managed to persuade Sid to do it! We all went to Sid's place in Wymondham where he laid on a fantastic roast dinner and gooseberry crumble - even though we had brought homemade Key Lime Pie and Millionaire's Shortbread.
a
Needless to say we needed a good walk after lunch. First of all we went for a poke around the new, very luxurious houses that had been built alongside Sid's grounds. Very nice but a bit our of our price range. Then we walked to Sid's field to see his latest cattle. They were a bit shy though - that's them in the distance.
a
By the time we got back we were ready for tea and cakes - podge!

The Champ

Last night was the annual Gym Club evening at St Francis. This would be the fourth, and last year, that Joe would be taking part.
a
They started off with a warm-up exercise, led by Joe and 3 of his friends. There then followed the competition. The first section was a floor routine. Joe had practised really hard for that, and we had some brilliant music for it (Mission Impossible). He did really well even though the music played up a bit when it kept stopping and starting - Joe was a real professional and didn't let it faze him! Joe came top out of the boys with 8.5.
a
The second and final section of the competition was the vault. Joe had been hoping to do a straddle jump, and had practised hard to get it right. But on the night he decided to go for the safer option and did two fantastic "through" jumps. He came joint top out of the boys with 7.0, meaning that he came first overall out of the boys!
a
Joe got this fantastic trophy and came very close to winning over all - just losing out by 0.5 to one of the girls.

Tree Climbing

We did our favourite walk from Kirby Bellars across to Asfordby and back again, yesterday afternoon. It wasn't as warm as last time we did it, so there was no dangling our feet in the river this time, but the boys did find some good trees to climb (and managed not to fall in the river!)

Are You Being Served?

a
Another show, another moustache. Fake this time though (in case you can't tell).
a
Last night was the end of the 4 day run of our take on Are You Being Served? If you are wondering what a spanish revolutionary has to do with AYBS, the second act featured the Grace Brothers' staff outing to a one star hotel in Spain. I had a very small part in the first act as a customer (I suppose I could call it a cameo - or is that a bit pretentious, darling?)
a
Today I am resting! In fact we all are, after a rather hectic week. The weather is lousy, so I think snuggling up on the new sofas in front of "Aliens", might be in order.
a
Here a few more pics - see if you can tell who was playing whom!

Beacon Hill

a
Beacon Hill was the location of our geocaching expedition today - the highest point in Leicestershire. It was a great cache that we found after a lot of searching tucked between two boulders and covered in smaller stones. There were some very friendly long-horned cattle up there too.

Here are a few pics.
